The exposed end-grain highlights the story of the tree’s life before plank.
What twists and turns did mother nature’s harsh lessons force the tree to take?
Where did new limbs sprout.. and what tiny creatures once made it their home?
Like an insect trapped in amber, I’ve attempted to capture these stories in the patterns of the Shōbu boards.

Made in birch and alder, and treated with clear hard-wax oil.
Each set contains:
4 playing boards – 2 light, 2 dark
32 player pieces – 16 white, 16 black
a simple cardboard box for player pieces
a length of paper cord
game instructions in English and Swedish
